Kruger National Park

Sitôt terminé mon périple à Fiji, j'ai décidé de venir en Afrique du Sud. Arrivé à Johannesburg avec quelques sueurs froides : n'ayant pas organisé mon transfert vers le backpaker j'ai pris un taxi et je me suis demandé pendant tout le trajet si c'était bien un taxi... Quand on entend parler de Joburg il est conseillé de ne pas s'aventurer en ville tout seul... Mais une fois cela passé, direction le parc national Kruger, au Nord-est et là tout est organisé et je n'ai rien à faire...

As soon as my trip in Fiji is ending, I decide to visit South Africa. When arriving in Johannesburg I don't feel really confident as I didn't sort my transfert out to the backpaker. And during the trip in taxi I keep wondering if I'm really in taxi... When you hear about Joburg, it's advised to do everything but travelling alone in the city!! When this was done, I came to the Kruger National Park, north-east of South Africa. There I'm not in charge of anything and that's better...

Le programme est simple et se résume en la recherche des Big 5 - les 5 gros - comme le disaient les chasseurs qui partaient en safari : Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Buffalo, Rhino. Le nom est resté mais ne se résume plus qu'à un safari d'observation. Le réveil se fait vers 6h du mat, juste quand le soleil se lève. Suivi du petit-déjeuner et du départ vers 6h30 en 4x4 ou bien à pieds. Retour vers 10h, brunch puis sieste jusque vers 14h car il fait très chaud. Ensuite déjeuner, puis vers 15-16h retour en 4x4 dans le bush. Retour au camp vers 19h à la tombée de la nuit pour le dinner puis dormir. Eventuellement on se réveille dans la nuit si le guide entends quelque chose d'intéressant. Ainsi le premier soir je me fais réveillé à 2h du mat car le guide a entendu Pretty Boy rugir dans les parages... On m'interdit de les aider à faire quoi que ce soit!!! Bref les bonnes vacances. La nourriture est excellente. On dort beaucoup. En plus je me paye le décalage horaire de la NZ alors ça me convient parfaitement. Et j'ai eu la chance d'avoir 2 guides pour moi tout seul. Par exemple la semaine suivante c'est un groupe de 8 russes qui viennent...

The programme is simple and can be summarized into the research of the Big 5, as it was named by hunters during their safaris : Lion, Elefant, Leopard, Buffalo and Rhino. The name remained but it is only for observation now. The wake-up is at 6.00 a.m just at sunrise. Followed by a breakfeast and we start at around 6.30 in 4x4 or by walk. Back at 10.00 it's brunch time and sleep - it's too hot now. Then we have lunch and we start again at 3.00-4.00 p.m in 4x4 in the bush. We're back at the camp at 7.00 and we have dinner and we sleep. Sometimes we wake up in the night if the guide hears something intersting, as we did the first night at 2.00 a.m when he heard Pretty Boy roaring not too far... I am restricted to help them in any way!!! So that's real holidays. The food is awesome. We sleep a lot. And because of the time difference with NZ that's perfect for me. I also have the chance to have 2 guides for me alone. But next week there's a group of 8 russians...

Un jeune aggressif qui nous montre qu'on est sur son passage. La règle d'OR : RESTER dans le véhicule. Surtout pas s'aventurer dans la savanne à pied, et c'est également valable avec les lions... An aggressive young guy who indicates us we are on his path. The rule of thumb: STAY in the vehicule. Do not run in the savane, which is also especially right with lions...

Marche dans la savanne... entre les deux guides normalement, excepté là pour la photos.. Maintenant un guide est armé. Mais c'est moins facile de se rapprocher des animaux en marchant. Par exemple on ne s'approche pas des éléphants même s'ils sont à plusieurs centaines de mètres.Walking in the savanna... between the guides (except on this picture oups..) Now one guide is armed.
